Because appellant did not timely file a motion for new trial, the notice of appeal was due to be filed on October 27, 2014. TEX. R. APP. P. 26.2(a)(1). Appellant did not file his notice of appeal until October 29, 2014. However, that same day, appellant also timely filed in the trial court a motion for extension of time to file the notice of appeal. See TEX. R. APP. P. 26.3.
